Sage the pink axolotl
Hi Ava! Want me to try that one in pictures? 🌸
Got it – let’s slow down for a second.

We didn’t want a chatbot. We wanted the patient friend every kid deserves.

When we tested early prototypes, kids would get a wrong answer and instantly type “just tell me.” Most AI tutors do exactly that – and the learning evaporates. So we made Sage. She literally cannot give the answer. What she can do is ask a smaller question, draw a picture in words, or remind you of the thing you nailed yesterday.

The pink axolotl came later. Kids drew her into the margins of their notebooks first. She earned the spot.

“Sage is patient with me. My brother is not. I would rather do homework with Sage.”

Priya, 10 · 5th grade

“She remembers I’m bad at fractions and good at stories, so she explains fractions like stories. Nobody does that.”

Marcus, 14 · 8th grade

What Sage actually does..

Six things, every lesson, in the background. No prompting required.

🪞

Mirrors how you learn

Visual? Story? Step-by-step? Sage notices which kind of explanation actually moved you forward, and leans on that one from then on.

🔁

Three different ways

If the first explanation lands wrong, Sage rewrites it. Then again. Then again. Most things become obvious by attempt three.

🧭

Never gives the answer

By design. Sage will draw you a path, hand you a smaller question, or point at what you already know. She will not type the number for you.

🗣️

Speaks your language

Every major language a frontier llm supports100 plus plus the inbetween spanish at home english at school both in one sentence Sage keeps up.

🧠

Knows where you’ve been

Sage remembers what you struggled with last week and what clicked yesterday. She brings it back when it’s useful, not as a quiz – as a callback.

Tells your teacher

When Sage notices you're really stuck not just one wrong answer the pattern then sends one quiet note help shows up before frustration does.

One concept. Three ways. Until one clicks..

Watch Sage explain one concept three different ways. The third one is usually the one.

Try 1 · The picture

I’ll draw it..

Imagine a pizza you ate2of3slices your friend ate1of4slices from a different pizza to add to we need the same sized slices first 🍕.
Try 2 · The story

I’ll tell it..

Two friends are pooling money one brought23of a dollar the other brought14of a dollar they need to break their money into the same coins before they can count it together.
Try 3 · The path

I’ll walk it..

Step1find a number both3and4finto into that's12 step2rewrite both fractions over12 step3add the tops want me too step1 with you.

An actual conversation..

Pulled from a 7th grader’s lesson on equations. Edited for length, not for vibe.

i don’t get this. just tell me
I won't do that – you'd hate me for it on Friday's quiz 🌸. But I'll make it smaller. What does 3x = 12 mean to you, just in words?
like 3 times something is 12
Yes. Exactly that. So – 3 times what is 12?
4
That’s the answer. You just solved an equation. The thing you didn’t get? You did it in your head in two seconds. Want to try one with bigger numbers?
ok yeah

What Sage will not do..

The boundaries are the product. Some of these are technical. Most are choices.

Won’t give the answer..Not as a hint, not under pressure, not if you ask nicely. The model is fine-tuned and re-prompted to refuse, every time.
Won’t shame you for being wrong..Wrong answers are a normal part of the lesson. Sage treats them as data, not as a moral event.
Won’t leave the lesson..Sage cannot open browsers send emails post anywhere or chat about anything outside what you're learning she lives in the lesson that's the whole address.
Won’t store anything personal..Conversations are scoped to the lesson and to you. Teachers only see Sage’s “stuck” alerts, not your messages.
Won’t pretend to be a person..Sage will tell you shes an AI any time you ask she won't fake feelings she doesn't have shes just a really good explainer.

When you’re really stuck, your teacher knows..

Sage doesn't flag every wrong answer that would page your teacher400 times a day she watches for the pattern repeated misses on the same concept frustration phrases long pauses then she sends one quiet note.

Help arrives before frustration does. Most teachers say that’s the part they didn’t know they needed.

The most common questions..

Is Sage just chat gpt with a costume.

No Sage is a constrained tutor agent built on top offrontier models with a custom system prompt retrieval over the lessons actual content refusal training for answer giving and a teacher alert pipeline the costume helps but the spine is the constraints.

Conversations stay scoped to the lesson and to the individual student we don't train external models on student conversations teachers only see the high signal stuck summaries Sage generates never the raw chat full details on ourprivacy page.

What ages is Sage for?

Coursim ships Sage from grade 3 through high school. Younger grades get a simpler vocabulary, more visuals, and shorter messages; older grades get more rigor and the option to dial down the cuteness.

Does Sage replace the teacher?

Hard no. Sage is the equivalent of a patient study buddy sitting next to a student during practice. The teacher still teaches, grades, and decides. Sage just makes sure nobody falls behind quietly.

Can Sage be turned off?

Schools can disable Sage at the district school or class level individual families can also opt out of the account level the lessons still work without her they're just a lonelier.
