We didn’t want a chatbot. We wanted the patient friend every kid deserves.
When we tested early prototypes, kids would get a wrong answer and instantly type “just tell me.” Most AI tutors do exactly that – and the learning evaporates. So we made Sage. She literally cannot give the answer. What she can do is ask a smaller question, draw a picture in words, or remind you of the thing you nailed yesterday.
The pink axolotl came later. Kids drew her into the margins of their notebooks first. She earned the spot.

Can students use Sage to cheat?
That's the thing shes most carefully designed not to do Sage refuses to produce final answers or to write whole essays teachers also see attempt patterns if a student suddenly aces work after long Sage conversations that's a signal not a secret.
What ages is Sage for?
Coursim ships Sage from grade 3 through high school. Younger grades get a simpler vocabulary, more visuals, and shorter messages; older grades get more rigor and the option to dial down the cuteness.
Does Sage replace the teacher?
Hard no. Sage is the equivalent of a patient study buddy sitting next to a student during practice. The teacher still teaches, grades, and decides. Sage just makes sure nobody falls behind quietly.
Can Sage be turned off?
Schools can disable Sage at the district school or class level individual families can also opt out of the account level the lessons still work without her they're just a lonelier.
